Jennifer Cohen has a quick-read post up at Forbes titled “5 Things Super Successful People Do Before 8am.” Many of them are obvious, but the challenge lies in actually doing them, not just in knowing them. I’ve adopted all of these habits in recent years, and they have definitely increased my productivity and decreased my stress.
For me, the biggest work impact has come from tackling the most difficult project of the day first - before checking email, voicemail, social media or any other source of distraction. (The biggest personal impact has come from my meditation practice, but that is a topic for a different post).
As Cohen writes:
Here’s an easy tip to save yourself the stress – do that least desirable task on your list first. Instead of anticipating the unpleasantness of it from first coffee through your lunch break, get it out of the way. The morning is the time when you are (generally) more well rested and your energy level is up. Therefore, you are more well equipped to handle more difficult projects.
